Land Rover Drives Over a Bridge Made of Paper

It's a 45th anniversary stunt for the SUV, but really this just shows how sturdy a bridge made of nothing but paper can be.

Building a paper bridge capable of supporting an entire SUV is no easy task, but bridge designer Steve Messam is up to the challenge. For the construction, Messam and his team traveled the Jiangsu province of China, a region with numerous beautiful bridges. And of course, China is famous for making things out of paper that you wouldn't think could be .

The bridge is a self-supporting arch and was constructed in exactly the same way that a stone bridge is built. The difference is that instead of a dozen or so stones, Messam used thousands and thousands of sheets of paper. The team used a temporary ramp to lay the paper sheets in place and then removed the ramp beneath, leaving only the paper and two supporting buttresses.

Once complete, the paper bridge was capable of supporting a roughly 6,000-pound Range Rover. We're just glad it didn't rain.
