Since 2015, we've been awaiting the arrival of the Mission E, Porsche's take on a powerhouse electric sedan. This week at the Geneva Motor Show, the automaker unveiled a new twist on its electric future plans: a crossover version called the Mission E Cross Turismo.
Like its sedan counterpart, the "CUV" will draw more than 600 horsepower from its electric powertrain. Porsche says the Mission E Cross Turismo will do 0 to 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds and rocket up to 155 mph. It's also got more than 300 miles of range and features the Mission E's 800-volt charging architecture that'll put 200-plus miles of juice on the car in just 15 to 20 minutes.
The Mission E Cross Turismo unveiled in Geneva is just a concept car for now, one decked out with sci-fi bucket seats, blue wheels, and lots of LEDs. But the original Mission E started as a concept, too. , Porsche has strongly hinted that this crossover version will also become a real car, if a less gaudy one.
It makes sense. Porsche's evolution here mimics what we saw with Tesla: First you make the big sexy sedan that handles like a dream, then you build a taller, roomier crossover because that's what people actually buy.
