Mario has come a long way from , but there's still one world to conquer: the Lego universe. Happily, Jason Chicon is ready to step in and show us what's possible.
Jason has posted some of the innards of the moving Mario level diorama on Flickr. Over on Reddit, he says that overall, "it's a belt made of 1x2 technic lift arms driven by tires." The box itself "is 32x20 studs and 15 bricks high." While he deemed a minifig to be "too complex" for the amateur build, in no way does that take away from how impressive this is.
If the Nintendo Switch ever decides to make a Lego Mario game, it should look to Chicon's model as to what's possible in that world: a sense of 8-bit whimsy, with the chance for endless possibilities.
