You know that gut-wrenching feeling when a beloved childhood franchise is revived and you realize that it's not made for you anymore? Kids from the 90s are feeling that acutely right now.
You see, Netflix's revival of cult early-CGI show ReBoot, subtitled , has released its first trailer.
It features live-action scenes of teenagers at an advanced high school, being recruited to jump into computer-animated cyberspace to fight virtual bad guys using weapons and armor, while totally disregarding the laws of physics.
For fans of the original, this new version is nothing less than sacrilegious.
The old ReBoot, which aired on ABC before becoming , was entirely CGI. It all took place inside a computer system and there was no schoolkid element, making The Guardian Code more similar to 2000's series or Tron.
But it's not just that: the animation has gone from blocky low-fi cartoon to a slicker style. That may not be a bad thing in itself, but fans are claiming that the CGI looks even worse now than it did Back in the Day.
At least they are going to wrap up the original's cliffhanger.
