A Cessna 172 carrying a flight instructor and two teenage students was forced to make an emergency landing on the beach at Robert Moses State Park on New York's Long Island. Shortly after landing on Monday at about 9:30 a.m. EST, the plane was caught by a gust of wind and flipped over.
Both 16-year-old students, a male and a female, were taken to the hospital, but no injuries have been reported from the incident. The small aircraft took off from Republic Airport, . One of the students was flying the plane when it suffered a mechanical failure. The instructor then took over and landed the Cessna, shortly after which it flipped from the wind.
The instructor stayed behind to talk to law enforcement and safety officials. The FAA will investigate the incident.
