are more convenient to use than the pneumatic versions that have to hook up to an air compressor, as there is no hose to work around. But their bulk and lack of power has held them back—until now.
Milwaukee Tool kicked off the new year by announcing its M18 mid-torque impact wrenches that hit the sweet spot when it comes to weight and power. They're built to handle a wide array of heavy fastening applications, including the tried-and-true test of loosening and tightening wheel lug nuts.
The mid-torque impact is 4 inches shorter and 2 pounds lighter than most competitive tools, which means less arm fatigue, more access into tighter spaces, and, when needed, one-handed operation. Despite their size, they still deliver 450 ft-lbs of fastening torque and 600 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque, which is even more power than some high-torque impact wrenches.
These new impact wrenches are available with a 1/2" pin detent or 1/2" friction ring and will be available in February 2017 for $399 for the kit or $189 bare tool.
