When the future gets too expensive, just DIY. That's the thinking behind these Lego self-lacing shoes right out of Back to the Future Part II.
Built by New Zealand industrial designer Vimal Patel, the sneakers were "a quick experiment" looking at combining Legos and non-Lego materials. The entire thing is custom, including the footware.
"To build on the shoe," he says on his , "I used a dremel and a hot glue gun to fix a few LEGO connection points. From there, it was straightforward to experiment with different designs and test their functionality."
Back to the Future Part II isn't the only brand Lego can reproduce on the cheap. You can also make a Lego Nerf gun, for example. The toy's seemingly endless variations is one of the main reasons it's the coolest toy on the planet.
