Google Maps is taking a seemingly small step that will improve overall driver safety in a big way: It's adding the location of every railroad crossing, whether public or private. That means drivers will always be aware when a crossing is coming up.

This may not seem so important, but according to , there were 2,280 highway-rail collisions and 267 fatalities in 2014. So a little advance warning from the nav system could save a lot of lives.
